Hoping through fire

We were a couple of weeks into his diagnosis of cancer and we were feeling stupidly hopeful. A naive dumpster fire meme, you know the one where the everything is on fire but you keep saying to yourself “yea… this is fine” lol

He was in the hospital for a couple of weeks, going through tests, scans, and procedures. Taking it one day at a time with the hope of eventually getting home was keeping us going. Our favorite daily affirmation was “One day at a time”

One day at a time living in that dumpster fire meme lol… Stupidly hopeful was a comfort to hold on to, that we just had to get through this day…

“Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Those couple of weeks were tough and it was our first taste of what cancer was going to look like. We got home and as the pandemic amped up, we did what every one else did. Margaritas, air fryer, take out, booze and repeat, the first several treatments didnt have many side effects so what he wanted to do to live in the moment is what we did… I was a terrible nurse lol I wasnt ready to start enforcing big teaching, I wanted him happy while he was feeling good. T.V. food and booze it was.

“Take one day at a time. Today, after all, is the tomorrow, you worried about yesterday.” Billy Graham

One day at a time is how we put out fires and walked throught them
